Slow Motion Snatch

The slow-motion snatch is a simple technique exercise to help the lifter better adjust and feel positions and balance throughout the snatch.

Begin with the feet in the receiving stance because they will remain planted on the floor. Perform a snatch at a very slow speed, maintaining continuous tension against the bar.

A typical error is to flip the elbows suddenly under the bar in the turnover—continue pulling against the bar and control the entire turnover.

If needed, the turnover itself can be performed at or closer to full speed.

Purpose
The slow motion snatch is a basic technique exercise for the snatch to help the lifter better adjust and feel positions and balance throughout the lift.

Programming
Slow motion snatches can be used to warm-up, or as a technique primer before snatches in a training session. Work with 3-5 sets of 3-5 reps generally.
