Brace Before You Dip in the Jerk
If your jerks are inconsistent, and tend to be forward or soft overhead, make sure you finish bracing before you dip.
This is a simple way to help ensure you’re starting with the same solid position and balance each time.
Getting a big breath tends to make you shift forward—if you’re still finalizing the last breath to brace as you begin dipping, you’re more likely to dip and then drive forward.
Get your last breath, brace, verify you’re balanced, and THEN start the dip.
A lot of times, athletes aren’t even aware that they’re still inhaling as they begin their dips—take a look at some of your videos and see if you notice it.
Can lifters jerk successfully if they’re still breathing and bracing as they start dipping? Yes. The question is whether or not YOU can (or do).
In any case, it’s creating unnecessary variables that open you up for problems without providing any benefit. Why make things any harder than they need to be?
