Always Start with Leg Push in the Snatch & Clean
Always start the snatch and clean by pushing with your legs.
This rule applies no matter where you’re starting the lift—whether it’s from the floor, or any hang or block position.
Starting with the leg push does a few things:
First, it helps reinforce proper balance over the foot.
Second, it helps you avoid bringing your shoulders back too soon.
And third, it helps you guide the bar up your body better to move it faster and keep it closer.
Depending on where you’re starting, pushing with the legs first will have a varying degree of observable effect.
The higher the hang or block position, the less noticeable the difference will be because the time frame is shorter, and the quicker the hips will and should begin extending.
However, the effect on how the lift overall moves will be significant even if it seems at first glance like nothing but your intent changes.
